WRITE ANYWAY!

If you want to be a writer, you cannot be afraid of the page.

You can’t be afraid of the story. Fear of the blank page will prevent you from telling a story the world needs to hear.

It can be daunting, I get it. Been there a time or two. Ironically, I didn’t start writing scared. A voice whispered and instinctively, I opened a blank page in computer program and wrote what I’d heard. There wasn’t anything to be afraid of because my curiosity got the best of me. I wanted to hear more of what that voice had to say. So I wrote. And everyday after, I couldn’t wait to communicate with that voice again. Watching words move across the page, hearing the rhythmic clack of the keyboard filled me up in such a way fear had no chance.

Don’t let fear of the blank page scare you from telling a story the world needs to hear.

Write what you don’t know as it will make you a better writer for what you do know. Write what you’ve been through. Write what you never want to go through. Write what makes your soul cry. Write what makes your heart smile. Write like you own the page because at the end of the night, you do.

Don’t let the story itself scare you.

Don’t let the process of writing keep you from writing.

Your mind will fill with a plethora of thoughts and questions: What are people going to think of me if I tell this story? How am I going to write enough to fill a book? Where will I find the time? Will people even want to hear my story? How will I find an agent? Who will buy my story?

None of the above is your concern. Write anyway! Doubt, procrastination, fear, hesitation, and everything else will become an obstacle IF YOU LET IT. Again, write anyway. Your focus needs to be on getting the story out of you, by any means necessary. The rest will take care of itself.
