100 Days of Stories – Day 93: WHAT IS REMEMBERED

He sits at the computer screen watching his therapist. His eyes follow as her finger moves from side to side. Right to left.

As he recounts a reoccurring experience from his childhood, his body reacts. He feels the crotch of his pants grow warm. His eyes no longer on his therapist’s finger movements.

Embarrassed, he slams the lid to his laptop, jumps from his chair, and dashes to the bathroom.

This is the first time his bladder involuntarily released since he was sixteen.

Shame turns to anger.

Pain.

Guilt.

And awareness.

The body never forgets its trauma.
