Carol didn’t want to lose her hair; she wanted to sacrifice it—to choose to let it go.
Cancer, however, wasn’t a choice, but she believed she could make choices that would make the journey bearable, if that makes sense. She’d been trying to make sense since the diagnosis. The doctor told her had she come in a few months later, favor would’ve been on the other side.
She embraces her new reflection and is surprised by her choice to smile.
